So I just finished putting in the Vette starter an hour ago that I bought from Kragen. It's such a luxury to not have to leave the car running outside when I go places or worrying that it might not turn back on, or hitting the starter with my crow bar...LOL It does sound a lot better but also sounds like it would be a smaller vehicle. I was able to use both stock Caprice bolts. My only concern is that the new starter being that it's a smaller unit doesnt completely cover around the area where the teeth are inside of...???

The "you get what you pay for" quote for is a credible advice/warning and has its merits. I consider the suggestion of a warranty on the starter (or anything electrical) sound advice.

Did what? Get what you paid for? Stewart, maybe you missed the phrase between the (' '). That or you didn't understand what the phrase meant. A pic such as that is of very little value. It means virtually nothing to me as I can not see inside to scrutinize the quality of components used. THAT is was separates a FIRST LINE product from a less expensive second or third rate option. Just thot I'd clarify that. Buyer beware!

If it last for as long as it is needed, you got a good deal. I still like the idea of a warranty though.

Also, I like the idea of fabbing a shield to cover up the exposed area. One can operate the engine with the torque convertor exposed but why? I prefer to protect it from whatever with a cover.

Gary there's nothing that's going to get up into the TC cover from the exposed area that the starter nose leaves behind. Neil chance cooler covers have big holes in them too.

Matt, you misunderstood me. Maybe I type too fast.
I used the TC cover just as an example. Why leave ANYTHING exposed when not necessary, whether it be the TC (for example) or the starter as is the focus of this thread? Part of it can fall back on me and be my fault. I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I think it is hereditary.

Well the TC flywheel area is not a completely sealed area is what I'm getting at. THe cover is there to protect the Torque Converter and flexplate. leaving a small gap in that area isn't going to hurt, nor is fabricating something to cover up that area going to provide much of anything either

I think I might need a new starter. How hard is the job? Is it just plug and play?
