The lightbulb for the headlight switch is bad. The replacement part is http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...rName=Category Radio Shack Part # 272-1092 . It may look different but its the same bulb. You will just have to remove the current bulb from the socket that its mounted in and mount the new one in the socket and reinstall into the car. A pretty quick job. You will have to take off the lower dash assembly to get to it. - Peter

When you pull it out, on the very top theres usually a black piece of tape covering it. Just remove the tape, grab a flat head screw driver and theres a plastic thing that 'looks' like a flat head screw, kinda.. that's the bulb, just give it a quick twist and itll pop out.

OK, it is that little thing you can see in my hand above. Here's some advice to anyone trying to fix theirs.

1) The headlight switch light does not go on unless the ingnition is turned to the on position...I also fixed the trip reset switch bulb at the same time..that goes on when the headlights are turned on and the entire dash lights up. I figured the headlight switch should be the same and eventually gave up after spending lots of time fiddling with it with the packing lights (and the other dash lights) on. I was surprised later when I started the car and it finally turned on.

2) You need to replace that piece of black plastic tape...otherwise there is a seam that will let out lots of light trough the dash..I didn't know that until I put the dash back together and sw the light glaring though.

I just found another replacement bulb that can be ordered online from Mouser Electronics. The part number is CNW1-23, manufactured by JKL Components:

http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...Ly%252bw%3d%3d

Currently $0.65 each plus shipping and it comes in a replacement bulb holder. 16,000 hour life span vs. 10,000 hours for the Radio Shack bulb. Same rated brightness of 0.15 MSCP. Here's the spec sheet:
